(And it's difficult to find what you want!) ![]() The Xylodom is our way of trying to do something a little different. We invite you to stroll through our space and discover things in a serendipitous manner, rather than be force fed a heap of junk We are not really interested in trying to sell you material like a double glazing salesman. We want you to arrive at your own conclusions about a product in your own time. It is very much an experiment in selling and to a large extent goes against the grain of most sales concepts. To quote Robert Frost Two roads diverge in a wood , and I- I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference. ![]() We are trying to produce an interesting site that can inspire and convey ideas as much as sell timber and wood products. It is hoped that the site will become organic and achieve a life of its own, and I would encourage anyone to write to us about interesting timber related topics. This would be included either in one of the library bookshelves or in the News and Views page. With your help we can make this grow into an area that you want to visit regularly. ![]() This site, I hope, is an antidote to those that think that designing is just a job, wood just a material, and trees just the mine that we get it from. Only the most miserly soul can claim that there is nothing of him put into an object that he designs or builds. Even the factory worker gets a kick out of doing the job well and seeing a heap of parts at the end of the day. Apart from timber being the only properly renewable building material on the planet, apart from trees being at the heart of our homeland landscapes, apart from wood being one of the most versatile materials, it can be one of the most beautiful of materials to work with. Quercus Now the News McConnel Wood Products Office in Competition Last year McConnel Wood Products entered The Times & Gestetner Digital Office Collection with their new office. We made it through to the last 100 and a champagne reception in the Royal College of Art in London in December. Our office was up against a variety of companies in a competition to find " the most visually exciting functionally efficient and inspirational places to work". About 350 offices entered. The winners were the .com bank Egg for a new call centre in Derby, Bob Geldof's deckchair.com travel company, Electronic Arts European Headquarters and Arthur Andersen Business Consulting. "How was I supposed to know that the large stick in the toilet was there for a reason" . . . Christine Getting a cup of coffee can be a real adventure, when your pipes are frozen. Deep in rural Penpont, we take the water bottle down to the river, climb over the rocks, dip the bottle in the river, procure the fresh mountain water, return to the log cabin etc etc etc. Good coffee and we're still alive. Pity about the fish though. |
